Trailer for novel by My Sister Jodie tops public vote

Play.com has  announced that Anna Lavelles is the winner of the 2009 Book Video Awards for her innovative and gripping book video trailer of My Sister Jodie by Jacqueline Wilson.

Anna, a student of the National Film and Television School in Buckinghamshire was crowed the 2009 BVA winner at an award ceremony beating competition from Felix Wiedemann for his interpretation of Double Cross by Malorie Blackman and Leevi Lemmetty for Heroes of the Valley by Jonathan Stroud.

The Book Video Awards launched in 2008 and is a joint initiative between Play.com, The Bookseller, Random House and The National Film and Television School. Play.com is dedicated to supporting new talent which brings two complementary art forms together, film and creative writing.

Over 15,000 members of the public voted for their favourite book video trailer through online entertainment website Play.com. The award was presented by Caroline Mileham, Head of Books for Play.com at last night’s event which was hosted at Charlotte Street Hotel, London.

Mileham commented, “I felt the videos were compelling and gripping, providing a strong draw for teenagers to watch and be intrigued by the book and its author. If only we had such brilliant video trailers for every book on Play.com then I am sure young children and teenage audiences would be attracted to a greater range of books.

Anna Lavelles said, “I am thrilled to be the recipient of this award – film making has been an ongoing passion of mine and I look forward to directing many more films. The hard work is finally paying off!

For those who haven’t had the chance to view the finalists’ entries, the films are available to view at www.play.com/bookvideoawards.
